While there is an emphasis on providing work for other non-profit organizations, the larger concern for Axismundi is the internal mentorship of its members and the broadening of collaboration in the design process. Axismundi seeks to bring together people of a variety of different skills, talents, and experiences to invent, learn, build, and grow.
Education and production of creative work are the focus of the group. Within Axismundi, there are several layers of mentorship including:

• Seasonal artists, architects, designers, builders, and educators who are board members and consultants provide expertise, critical thought, and guidance on means and methods of designing, building, and organizing.
• Emerging artists, architects, designers, builders and educators work side-by-side with recent graduates and current students to produce inventive design work, and to provide career guidance and mentorship.
• Graduates and current students pair up with high school students in the development of design and assist them in their pursuit of an education in art, design, or architecture.

The Latin term, axis-mundi, (literally the axis of the world) is used to describe sacred space, here is meant to define a group that comes together around a shared idea, not to be owned by any one member of the group. Ideas for new projects may come from board members and experienced members,  from a high school student, or a child. The skills and talents of the group as it exists at any moment are the tools with which projects will be created.
Axismundi intends to continue to attract new members as a magnetic force. As new members join, with different experiences and skills, the breadth and focus of the work will evolve and grow.
